Bill BUCHANAN Mr. Bill Buchanan, 75, of Barbourville, passed away Wednesday morning, May 9, 2007 at his home. He was a son of the late William H. and Carrie Jackson Buchanan born on April 7, 1932 in Barbourville. Mr. Buchanan was a former coal grader with the Richland Coal Company and a member of the Apple Grove Baptist Church. He was a farmer, former Barbourville City Police officer, Knox County Deputy Sheriff, Knox County Jailer and Knox County Coroner. He enjoyed farming and tinkering with Cub Cadet lawn tractors. He faithfully served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On August 5, 1955, he united in marriage with Ruth Hammons in Jellico, TN and to this union two daughters were born. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Randall, Clarence, Lowell and Buster Buchanan; and two sisters, Dorcas Goins and Jean Mills. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Buchanan of Barbourville; two daughters, Kopie Doolin and husband, Mike, of Girdler and Cathy Abner and husband, Wayne, of Heidrick; a sister, Wilma Goins of Barbourville; two brothers, Lloyd Buchanan and wife, Joyce, of Barbourville and Herbert Buchanan and wife, Florene, of Alabama; four grandchildren, Bradley and Brandon Abner, Melanie Jackson and husband, Todd, and Amber Johnson; two step grandsons, Michael and Dakota Doolin; his mother-in-law, Lola B. Hammons of Barbourville; among other loved ones and dear friend who mourn his passing. His funeral service was conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Friday, May 11 at 1 P.M. with Rev. Paul Cooper and Rev. Denvil Taylor officiating. Mr. Buchanan was laid to rest in the Glasscock Cemetery with military funeral honors by the American Legion. |
