Elizabeth HOURIGAN WHARTON Elizabeth Hourigan Wharton, 98, of Barbourville, Ky., passed away on April 5, 2006, after a long and wonderful life, in Lexington, Ky. She was born Feb. 2, 1908 to the late David and Emily Hourigan. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Rutledge Wharton, Jr., her son, John Rutledge Wharton, Jr. and her four brothers, Garland, Roger, Durham and William Hourigan. She was a graduate of Western Kentucky Teaching College and taught school in her native Marion County. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Barbourville and a 50-year member of the Barbourville Women�s Study Club. She was known for her oil painting and flower arranging. She is survived by her son, William B. Wharton, DMD (Dorothy) and her granddaughter, Robin Elizabeth Wharton, DVM. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 8 at Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with visitation preceding the service, from 1- 2 p.m. Interment was at 3 p.m. in Springfield, Ky. on Sunday, April 9. Contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church, North Main Street, Barbourville, Ky. or a charity of your choice. |
