HOMER MERRITT
Homer Merritt, 74, of Coal Port, passed away Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005 at his home. He was a son of the late Clifford and Ollie Jones Merritt. He was a member of Artemus Baptist Church and a retired barber and a Marine who served as a gunner during the Korean War and a member of the American Legion Post #69 of Barbourville.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Merritt; one son, Jonathan Merritt; one daughter, Tammy Merritt; two grandsons; one daughter-in-law, Rose Merritt; two sisters, Mary Baker and husband Randal, Alice Davis and husband Bill; one brother, Bob Mack Meritt and wife Dorothy; two stepdaughters, Beverly McGowen and husband Gary, Judy West; three step grandchildren.

Graveside services were conducted Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005 at the Sowders Cemetery at Coal Port with the Rev. B.F. Jackson officiating. Military honors were presented by the Barbourville American Legion Post #69. Hampton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
