On this 13th day of October 1832, personally appeared before this justice of the peace for the county aforesaid now sitting, Moses Walker, a resident of said county, aged about 70 years, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath make the following declaration, in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the Act of Congress passed June 7th 1832. That he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers, and served as herein stated. That he was drafted in Bedford County in the State of Virginia about the middle of August 1780 in the Militia Company commanded by Capt. Benj. Arthur and Lieutenant Joseph Hambrick and afterward, when it was ascertained that I was in the habit of making Kanteans, orders were given for me to engage during this tour making Kanteans, as the Army was in great want of such vessels and so I continued in said county in the United States employ at that business. During this tour the work was delivered by me to Capt. Thomas Crump at New-London, which ended about the middle or last of October in the same year------He was then discharged by his Captain and had a certificate and discharge for said work as a tour of duty, which was signed by Capt. Crump, which has been lost or misplaced so as not to be found. He served a second tour of three months, which commenced the last of December 1781 under the command of said Captain Arthur and marched to Otter Church, where the ammunition was deposited to guard the same, and when I reached the ---- Church, I was placed under the command of Sergeant Neal and Leach and continued there three months as a guard until about the last of March 1782 and then discharged at the ---- Church by Sergeant Neal without a written discharge as well as he recollects. That he was born in Bedford County, Virginia the 15th day of November 1763. His age was registered in his father’s family Bible, which was left in Virginia in his father’s possession. That he was living in Bedford County, Virginia when called into service, resided in Virginia until 1801 and then moved to Jessamine County, Kentucky, where he has since resided. That each tour of duty served by him as aforesaid, he was drafted. The names and officers and general circumstances of his service above stated. He states And. Hoover, Thos. Butler, Lemuel Butler, Geo. Rowland, Thos. Hawkins, John Hawkins, Isaiah Elgin are persons to whom he is known in his present neighborhood, and who can testify as to his character for veracity, and their belief of his services as a soldier of the Revolution. He further states that he knows of no person living whose testimony he can procure to prove his services aforesaid. He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present, and declares that his name is not on the Pension Roll of the Agency of any state, that he knows of. That he never has received any compensation for his services aforesaid. Sworn to and subscribed the day and year aforesaid. Moses Walker We, Andrew Hoover, a clergyman residing in the County of Jessamine, and Thomas Butler, residing in the same, hereby certify that we are well acquainted with Moses Walker, who has subscribed and sworn to the above declaration; that we believe him to be seventy years of age next November, that he is reputed and believed in the neighborhood where he resides, to have been a soldier of the Revolution, and we concur in that opinion.
