Revolutionary War Pension Application of William Shreve State of Kentucky Jessamine County |

On this 15th day of January 1844 came in open court in for the county aforesaid, Mrs. Ann Shreve, a resident of said county, who after being duly sworn according to law, doth on her oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefits of the provisions of the act of Congress passed the 7th of June 1832. Affiant states that she is the widow of Wm Shreve, that said Wm Shreve departed this life on the 26th of January 1837 in the town of Nicholasville, county aforesaid, that said William Shreve as this affiant is informed and believes was a soldier of the Revolutionary War and in the Virginia Service, that during the war while said Wm Shreve was at college and young he volunteered for a tour and marched into service for three months. The capt or company he served not now recollected, that he was under Genl Nathl Green, and as said Shreve always said was in the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, that she has heard said Shreve say that he entered the service of --- corps or regiment, and served in it to the time it was disbanded, how long she does not recollect to have heard him state, but from the best information she believes he served to the time he engaged, and was honorably discharged, that he said Shreve lost his discharge, that she is not in the possession of any documentary evidence to establish said service, nor does she know of any living witness who can prove the service stated in --- corp, but it is possible that Mr. James Martin may recollect something of his service at Guilford Courthouse, said Wm Shreve never made any application for a pension, in his lifetime, nor never would do so although often requested, that said Wm Shreve was in his 77th year of age when he died, which took place at the time aforesaid, that said Wm Shreve intermarried with this affiant, whose maiden name was Ann Barnett, on the 5th day of February 1809. That said Ann, this affiant, is now the widow of Wm Shreve, further this affiant saith not. Sworn and subscribed in open court the day and year aforesaid. Ann Shreve On this 15th day of January 1844 satisfactory proof was made in open court by oath of Allison Wake --- that Mr. Wm Shreve departed this life on the 26th day of January 1837 in the county of Jessamine, that said Wm Shreve was reputed to have served as a soldier in the Revolutionary War, and in the Virginia Service, and the said Wm Shreve left at his death a widow, Ann Shreve, who is now living as his widow, well known to the court, all of which is ordered to be certified to the war department by an order of the county court. The court are further satisfied from testimony adduced that said Wm Shreve is reported to have served in --- corps as stated in the declaration of Mrs. Shreve. I, Daniel B. Price, Clerk of the County Court for the county aforesaid, do certify that the foregoing is a true transcript of the order of the said court made on the above written and that the declaration of Ann Shreve aforesaid made on oath in open court, and I do further certify that John G---, Esq., whose name is subscribed to the foregoing certificate to the --- deposition of James Martin is now and was at the time of making and signing said certificate an acting Justice of the Peace in and for the county aforesaid, duly commissioned and qualified as such.
