Mart Young Cemetery

From Hwy 109 in Charleston, take Huckleberry Road east for approximately 1 1/2 miles. When you get to Carter Cemetery, Huckleberry Road bends to the right. There is a dirt drive that runs down the left side of the cemetery. Take this drive for 2/10 of a mile. At the end of this drive is a wire fence to keep folks off the property past the cemetery. In the photo where you can see my car, I'm parked in front of this fence. The last time I was down here [last summer when I was first told about this particular cemetery], you couldn't see the fence because of someone using it as a dump site. It's been cleaned up in front of the fence but there is still a lot of trash in the cemetery. I was stepping over dirty diapers, cans, papers, plastic bags, etc in addition to all of the leaves, twigs, branches etc. If this cemetery is maintained at all I would venture a guess that it is no more than once a year. There are numerous unmarked graves and of course several stones that I couldn't read. I was unable to locate a trustee. The person that told me about this cemetery said they had heard that it was an 'Indian' cemetery.
