SIMEON BALE was a native of Green County, Ky., and was born December 14, 1830; his grandfather, Jacob Bale, was of Dutch descent, was born in New Jersey, was a blacksmith by trade and the owner of a flour mill near Greensburg, Ky., where he located at an early day; he reared a family of seven sons and four daughters, of which number, Peter, the father of Simeon, was the youngest but one, and was born in 1796, and married to Miss Mary Dobson, in 1817; she was of Irish parentage and a native of Virginia. To this marriage were born eight sons and three daughters: Jacob, Joseph, Casper, Henry, and Simeon married and resided near the place of their birth; two daughters: Sophia, wife of George Hunter, and Sarah J., wife of James Poor, resided in Hart County. Simeon Bale followed the trade of blacksmith, which he learned from his father; with his trade he connected farming, and was uniformly successful in his business operations; he owned a farm of 220 acres, lying contiguous to the waters of Lynn Camp Creek, in Hart County, and his attention was given principally to the growing of grain and tobacco. In his twenty-ninth year, March 1, 1860, he was united in marriage with Miss Emily Lancaster, and to them were born three sons: James, who married Alice P. Jaggers; Solomon, who married Sarah Polley; and Earl, who married Lestie Polley; and six daughters: Eliza J., wife of E. L. Jones of Hart County; Mary, who married William Franklin Scott of Green County; Laura, wife of Joseph Jones of Hart County; Millie, who married George Price Scott, brother of William Franklin; Amanda Elizabeth, who married Lewis Wesley Scott of Green County; Flora, who married Henry Thomas Miller; Emily (Lancaster) Bale was born in 1836, and was a daughter of Jesse Lancaster, of Green County. Mrs. Bale was a member of the Baptist Church and Mr. Bale held the same faith, though not a member of the church. Politically he was a Republican and held the office of magistrate in his district from 1870 to 1876.
