Lucy Brown Rayburn (1939-2006)

Lucy Belle Brown Rayburn, 66, of Argillite, Ky., died Monday, May 1, 2006, in King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. Mrs. Rayburn was born Aug. 14, 1939, in Hunnewell, Ky., a daughter of the late Leonard and Lucy Martin Johnson. She was owner and operator of Brown's Grocery Store in Argillite since 1968. She was a WSAZ Hometown Hero in 1998, a Kentucky colonel and a Baptist. She also was preceded in death by her first husband, Farris Brown, in 1981 and an infant daughter, Marie Brown. She is survived by her husband, Hubert Eugene Rayburn; a son, Randy (Denise) Brown of Cynthiana, Ky.; a daughter, Judy (David) Pack of Greenup, Ky.; three stepdaughters, Donna Smith of Atlanta and Diane McCarty and Patsy Adkins, both of Summit, Ky.; a brother, L.C. Johnson of Argillite; and four grandchildren, Matthew Brown, Jessica Brown, Desirae Pack and Shannon Pack. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2006, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup by the Rev. James Harris. Burial will be in Plum Grove Cemetery in Greenup.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and an hour before the funeral Thursday at the funeral home.
