Mrs. Charles Major Murder
The Leader, March 9, 1910
“Mystery”
For the fourth time in the past year the mysterious Broughton murder case will be taken up this week in the
Garrard Circuit Court for consideration. In an interveiw Commonwealth's Attorney Charles A. Hardin said that the
case is the most puzzling with which he has ever had to cope. On Christmas Day, 1908, a family reunion was held at
the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Major, nine miles from Danville, near Bryantsville. The husband, Charles
Major, charged that the shot had been fired by Andrew Broughton, his wife's brother, and that the charge was
intended for Major. Andrew Broughton, on the other hand, charged that the shot had been fired by Charles Major.
