1863 Delegates
Louisville Daily Journal, May 5, 1863
At a meeting held at Lancaster, Garrard county, Kentucky, on the 27th day of April, 1863, John
Owsley, Esq., was called to the chair, and W. H. Campbell was appointed secretary.
On motion of George Denny, Esq., the following persons were appointed to draft resolutions expressive of the
sentiments of this meeting, and to appoint delegates to a Convention to be held at London on the 5th day of May,
to nominate a candidate for the Eighth Congressional District:
Edward F. Denny, James Anderson, William Lusk, R. A. Burton, Michael Ray, Joshua Dunn, and C. J.
Spillman.
The committee reported the following resolutions:
Resolved, That we endorse the course pursued by our late representative, Hon. G. W. Dunlap, and recommend him as
a suitable person for re-election, and instruct our delegates, hereinafter to be appointed, to cast the vote of
Garrard county for him in Convention.
Resolved, That Ben Dunn, C. J. Spillman, Z. C. Merritt, Geo. Denny, Henry S. Burnam, E. M. Leavill, John Murphy,
B. F. Pherigo, Alfred Burton, Alexander Lusk, W. A. Yaulis, and all other Union men of Garrard county in favor
of a vigorous prosecution of the war till the rebellion is put down, be appointed delegates to the Convention at
London.
Hon. Samuel Lusk offers additional resolutions:
That war for the suppression of the rebelliion go on, that they (rebels) submit unconditionally to the U. S.
government, that they approve and endorse Order 38, issued by Maj. Gen. Burnside for more effectual suppressions
of treason. Then they thanked the soldiers in the field for the protection of our flag.
