In the name of God Amen, I Thomas Hampton being of sound and disposing mind and memory, but weak in body, do make and ordain this my last will and testament.

1.  I will desire that my just debts be paid and for purpose. I desire that whatever can be spared from my farm, such as stock, farming utensils be sold.

Item - my earnest wish and desire is that my family be kept together and further purpose - I desire that my mother-in-law, Mrs. Jones shall live on my farm during her life
provided she take charge of my children and at her death, I wish the farm together with the stock of every kind on hand, negroes, farming utensils be sold and the proceeds
equally divided among my children.  Should an opportunity offer to sell the farm advanta? before the death of Mrs. Jones, my executor may in his discretion sell the farm with
the consent and approbation of my two oldest children and Mrs. Jones.  The whole of my property of any kind which may be left after the payment of my debts and funeral
expenses, I wish kept together on my farm and the proceeds of the farm to support Mrs. Jones and my family.  If deemed prudent and advisable at any time to rent the farm,
Mrs. Jones and my son John may ____? discretion do so applying the rent to the support of the family as aforesaid and in that event the farming utensils, household furniture,
stock should be sold.

Item - Should any of my children marry or leave the farm, I wish them to have whatever can be conveniently spared which they may desire, charging each
one with what may be received to be taken into the estimate in a final division and deducted from their parts.  

Lastly, I appoint my friend Mason Brown my Executor and I earnestly request that he will act, having full confidence in his __?. I request that he shall not be required to give
security.  In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand
this 27th of July 1843.

Franklin County Court, August Term 1843
A writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Thomas Hampton, decd., was produced in Court and was proven by the oaths of Williamson W. Bacon and E. H. Watson,

two of the subscribing witnesses and ordered to be recorded, which the said will is truly recorded in my office.
