Know all men by these presents that I, Edmund Scantland of the county of Franklin and state of Kentucky being of a sound disposable mind do make this my last
will and testament.  After, paying my personal expenses and all other of my just debts.  I give bequeath for the love and affection for my children herein after mentioned:
 To y son Edmund Scantland I give and bequeath the money he took out of the Bank of Frankfort.  To my son G. Washington Scantland the land he now has in Henderson
County, Kentucky my negro boys; Jonas, Tom, Lewis and Ralph is to choose an agent or trustee and be said trustee or agent to have said negroes, Tom and Ralph to
labour for their own selves, said agent or trustee as the case may be to have and to hold the money so earned by said negroes before mentioned if they choose to go to
Liberia or to some free state when they shall have sufficient means to carry then to either place they choose.

The balance of  my property both personal and real is to be sold at a public sale and the proceeds of said to be divided equally between my son John Scandland and my
daughter, Zubah Hawkins, wife of William Hawkins of Woodford County, Kentucky and my son O.H.P. Scantland on condition that he treats me his old father in the way I
wished he should act towards me and obeys my orders strictly, and in that case he shall share equally with my son John and Zubah, before mentioned that is to say he
shall share only one half of the third and in case his son Edmund shall remain with me he shall share the other half of the third, if not nothing, and be it further understood
that if my son O.H.P. Scantland does not do right toward me he shall not share one cent more than what I have given him heretofore.  Also, if he will let his son Edmund
remain with me I will make him one of my heirs, if  does not remain with me he shall not.  To my daughter Sarah Crutcher my negro girl Rachael and her children as I have
once before conveyed them to her by deed of gift.  I wish that still to remain so.  I further more wish Reuben Crutcher to act as my executor this my will any time I choose
to alter.  I am to do so, given under my hand this 27th day of August 1851.

Know all men by these presents that I Edmund Scantland being of sound mind and disposable mind doth make this last codicil to my last will and testament made 27th day
of August 1851.  In which I had left my negroes Thomas, Lewis and Ralph to choose agent or trustee.  I now make this codicil to ___? that past allowing said negroes to
choose agent or trustee and I will that they shall be sold with the rest of my property and their proceeds to be divided equally between my children; John, O.H.P Scantland
and Zubah Hawkins my daughter.  Given under my hand this 27th day of September 1851

A writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Edmund Scantland, decd. with the codicil thereto was produced in court and the will and codicil was proven by the
oath of J. T. Dickenson, subscribing witness thereto which is ordered to be certified.

State of Kentucky, Franklin County Court, November term 1851
The last will with the codicil of Edmund Scantland, decd., was fully proved by the oaths of Moses Hawkins, a subscribing witness thereto and ordered to be recorded.
Whereupon the said will and codicils is truly recorded in my office.
