Photo of the Clay County Courthouse Beautiful Clay County, Kentucky is part of Appalachia. The county was created in 1807 and named for Green Clay, a cousin of Henry Clay, a U.S. Senator from Kentucky. Land was given from Floyd, Madison, and Knox counties to form Clay County. The county seat is Manchester. Clay County is within the Daniel Boone National Forest.

Surrounding counties are: Owsley County by Mike Dye, Perry County is Adoptable Leslie County is Adoptable, Bell County is Adoptable, Knox County by Gayle Triller, Laurel County is Adoptable, and Jackson County is Adoptable.
