Bratton, died at 1:25 p.m. today in a Lexington hospital after a one month illness. She was a native of Clark County and lived at 31 Mentelle Park, Lexington. She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Winchester. Survivors include two sons, Julian D. Bratton, Clark County, and Robert D. Bratton, Lexington; a granddaughter, Miss Mary Lou Bratton, Clark County; a brother, Taylor Ecton, Winchester; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Scobee Funeral Home by the Rev. J. I. Meyer. Burial will be in the Winchester Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Sherwood Walden, Clay Wills, Glenmore Ecton, Dr. R. H. Scobee, Graham Johns, Jr., W. D. Chamberlain, John R. McDonald and C. T. Pinnell. The body is at the funeral home where friends may call after 1 p.m. Thursday.

Bratton, 67 years old, died suddenly at his home near Wade's Mill, Monday morning at 7:40 o'clock. He was working on some farm machinery near the residence when he was suddenly stricken ill. Death resulted shortly after he was carried into the house. The deceased was born and reared in this county, where he resided all of his life. He was a prosperous farmer and widely known throughout this and surrounding counties. He was a man of quiet manner and possessed a genuine character. He was a devoted member of the North Middletown Christian Church which he attended regularly until his death. Surviving him are his widow, who was Nancy Ecton, daughter of the late Senator C. B. Ecton; two sons, Robert D. Bratton, of Lexington, and Julien D. Bratton, at home: four sisters, Mrs. R. M. Smith and Miss Lena Bratton, both of Mt. Sterling; Mrs. Laura Hart and Mrs. R. S. Scobee, of Winchester. The funeral services will be held at the late residence, Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. F. M. Tinder, pastor of the North Middletown Christian Church, assisted by the Rev. O. B. Crockett, pastor of the First Methodist Church, here. Burial will be in the Winchester cemetery. Bush, 68, prominent Clark county farmer, died at 8 o'clock Sunday night at his home near Kiddville Sunday night after a brief illness. He was a member of the First Baptist church of Winchester and a large landowner. He was the son of the late Nelson and Sallie Bush. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Tom Proctor and Mrs. Rachel Ware Bush, both of Winchester. The remains were removed to Mrs. Proctor's home on South Main street. Mr. Bush was born in Clark county Dec. 13, 1868, and resided here throughout his life. His wife, Mrs. Mattie E. Ware Bush, died several years ago. Funeral services will be conducted at three p.m. Tuesday at the grave in the Winchester cemetery by Dr. O. E. Herring and Dr. C. M. Thompson. Active pallbearers will be: Harvey Lisle, John Duvall, Clay Haggard, Field Van Meter, J. Smith Hays, Jr., Lewis Flynn, George Proctor and Eugene Freeman: honorary, John M. Stevenson, John M. (Mattie) BUSH Local Lady Is Laid to Rest in the Winchester Cemetery, Monday Afternoon The funeral services of Mrs. Leland Bush, who died at the Howard Kelley hospital in Baltimore, following a recent illness, were held at the Winchester cemetery Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, and were conducted by Rev. C.M. Thompson, pastor of the First Baptist church of this city. Mrs. Bush was removed to the sanatorium July 31, and since that time had been in a very serious condition. Word was received Friday that Mrs. Bush had withstood an operation and seemed to be in an improved condition, however, she suffered a relapse and died late Saturday afternoon. The deceased was one of the most beloved matrons of this city and was widely known for her hospitality. She was a native of Clark county. Mrs. Bush was very active in club work, having been a member of the D.A.R.. the Woman's Club, and the Little Garden Club. She was a member of the First Baptist church. Mrs. Bush, before her marriage, was Miss Mattie Ware, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ware. She is survived by her husband, Leland T. Bush, and two daughters, Mrs. Tom Proctor and Mrs. Floyd G. Clay.

Lindsey Russell Douglas, Jr., 72, of 420 S. Maple St., widower of Madge Johns Douglas, died Monday. A native of Mt. Sterling, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lindsey R. Douglas, Sr., a retired employee of Ashland Oil Company, a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church and a veteran of World War II. Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Graham Williamson, Winchester; two sons, Dr. Lindsey R. Douglas III, Saudi Arabia, and Dr. Taylor J. Douglas, Bend, Ore.; seven grandchildren, Lindsey R. Douglas, IV, Spencer Douglas, Allison Douglas, Cicely Douglas, and David Taylor and Kristina Dunn. Graveside services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Winchester Cemetery by Rev. Rachel Ecton Duvall Mrs. Duvall, 82, Dies At Home Here Mrs. Rachel Ecton Duvall, 82, widow of the late John Duvall, died at her home, 424 West Lexington Avenue, at approximately midnight Wednesday. Coroner James W. Bean said Mrs. Duvall's body was found at 11:30 a.m. at her home, and that she apparently died of a heart attack late Wednesday night after returning to her home from a church meeting. Coroner Bean said it was apparent that she collapsed while starting to make a telephone call. She was clad in the dress she wore to church, he said. Mrs. Duvall, a native of Clark County, was a member of the First Baptist Church. Survivors include one brother, Walter Ecton, Winchester, a step-son, Harvey Duvall, Atlanta, Ga., and a step-granddaughter, Mrs. Ed Baber, Clark County. The body is at the Scobee Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Arthur Ecton ARTHUR ECTONIS CALLED TO REST Ten Year Old Son of Mr. and Mrs. Taylor Ecton Passes Away Thursday of Diabetes Arthur Taylor Ecton, aged 10 years son of Mr. and Mrs. Taylor Ecton, residing on the Lexington pike, died Thursday afternoon at 5 o'clock. He had been in declining health for about seven months suffering from diabetes and his condition assumed a very sudden and critical stage Wednesday afternoon. His condition grew rapidly worse until the end came Thursday. Besides his parents he is survived by two sisters, Misses Nancy Bell and Florence Ecton and one brother, Glenmore Ecton. The funeral services will be held at the family residence at 4 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J.H. MacNeill and Rev. William Cumming. Burial in the Winchester cemetery. Six little friends and schoolmates of the deceased will act as pall bearers.

ECTONDEATH VICTIM Former State Senator and Confederate Soldier Survived By Many Relatives Is Dead Former State Senator C. B. Ecton, 78 years old, died Monday night at 11:40 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. R. L. Bratton, near Wade's Mill. He had been ill for some time. Senator Ecton, who was a Confederate veteran, represented this senatorial district several years ago and was held in high esteem by his Democratic colleagues and had a host of friends in Clark county and Winchester. Senator Ecton was elected to the Senate, representing Clark, Bourbon and Montgomery counties in 1906 and served until 1910. He sponsored the bill that fixed a higher "age of consent" limit for a statutory offense and was a prominent dry leader during the days when the county unit bill was a principal issue. Until a few weeks before his death, Senator Ecton was a familiar figure on Winchester streets. Because of his wide acquaintance and cheerful manner, he was greeted by every passerby, all of whom delighted in conversing with him. No longer than a month ago he replied in a sprightly manner to an inquiry regarding his health that he was "stout and hearty," an expression familiar to all his acquaintances. Senator Ecton served in the regiment of Colonel Waller Chenault in General Jon Morgan's Cavalry. He lived at his home on Lexington avenue until he became ill. His wife, who was Miss Marion Elizabeth Wills, preceded him to the grave by four years. Senator Ecton is survived by a daughter, Mrs. R. L. Bratton, four sons: J.J. and H. T. Ecton, Winchester: Harry Ecton, Akron, Ohio: and C. B. Ecton, Jr., Bourbon county; a sister, Mrs. George W. Strother, Winchester, and a half-brother, James Ecton, Winchester, and a large number of nephews , nieces and grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the daughter's home Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock, Dr. U. G. Foote, of the First Methodist church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Winchester cemetery. Active pall bearers will be Robert D. Bratton, Julian Bratton, Younger Osborne, Glenmore Ecton, T. Strother Scott and C. B. Strother. Honorary pallbearers will be Col. T.G. Stewart, W.H. Garner, J. Ecton, Jr., 65, a son of the late Senator C. B. Ecton and Mary Elizabeth Wills Ecton, who died Tuesday afternoon following a long illness were conducted Wednesday afternoon at four o'clock at the grave in the Winchester cemetery by the Rev. A. W. Fortune, pastor of the Central Christian church in Lexington, and Dr. Hugh McLellan, pastor of the First Christian church of Winchester. Mr. Ecton was a member of the Central Christian church of Lexington, and was born and reared in Clark county. He was engaged in farming in Fayette county until recently, when he returned to Winchester. Mr. Ecton is survived by his widow, Mrs. Georgia Ashurst Ecton, a daughter, Mrs. William Parramore, of Washington, D. C.; a sister, Mrs. R. L. Bratton, of Clark county, and two brothers, Harry W. Ecton, of Akron, Ohio, and H. Taylor Ecton, of Winchester. Active pallbearers were: R. D. Bratton, J. D. Bratton, Glenmore Ecton, T. C. Pennell, Jesse Craig and Edward Myers; honorary, John Duvall, James Scott, Claude Spears, Charles Venable, Joe Penn Redmon and Younger Osborne.

Ecton, 58, passed away at his home on East Hickman street at 1:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon. The deceased was a farmer and life insurance man and was well known to the people of this city and county. He was an active member of the First Christian church and a man of splendid traits of character. He was a son of the late Senator and Mrs. C. B. Ecton and has lived all of his life in this community. He is survived by his widow, who was Miss Sydney Ferguson, of Paris; one daughter, Mrs. Younger Osborn, of this city; one sister, Mrs. Robert Bratton, of Wade's Mill, and three brothers, Taylor Ecton, of Winchester, Harry Ecton, of Akron, Ohio, and Charles B. Ecton, of Lexington. Funeral services will be announced Sunday in the churches.

Lizzie Mae Ecton Osborne Death Comes To Mrs. Osborne, 66 Mrs. Lizzie Mae Ecton Osborne,66, widow of Younger Osborne, died unexpectedly at 10:45 p.m. Friday of a heart attack at her home, 133 Burns Avenue. Mrs. Osborne was born in Clark County and was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ecton. She was a member of the Hart Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Osborne was active in the program of the First Christian Church in which she was a life long member. During recent years she wrote a complete history of the Christian church in this community, and copies of her manuscript have gone to many libraries. Survivors include an uncle, Henry Taylor Ecton, Winchester; an aunt, Mrs. R.L. Bratton, Lexington, and several first cousins, including Mrs. Nancy Belle Johns, Winchester, and Julian D. Bratton, Clark County. Funeral arrangements were incomplete. The body is at the Scobee Funeral Home.

Life Long Resident of the County Succumbs at Her Home in This City Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Ecton, wife of former Senator C. B. Ecton, Sr., died Saturday morning at 5:20 o'clock at her home on Lexington avenue. Mrs. Ecton had been in failing health for some time, but had not been seriously ill until the past two weeks. Her death was due to a complication of diseases. Mrs. Ecton had been a resident of Clark county all her life. Previous to her marriage she was a Miss Wills. During her life she was a faithful and devoted member of the Methodist church. Mrs. Ecton is survived by her husband, four sons, Joe J. Ecton, Charlie Burgess Ecton, H. Taylor Ecton, Harry W. Ecton, and one daughter, Mrs. R. L. Bratton, all of this county. One son, Robert Ecton, is deceased. The funeral service will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the family residence, the Rev. G. W. Banks of the Methodist church, officiating.

ECTON Mother of Mrs. John Duvall Succumbs to Jaundice at Early Hour this Morning Mrs. Ecton, age 69 years, died at her home this morning at 5:15 o'clock, after an illness that extended over about four months from jaundice. Mrs. Ecton is one of the most widely connected women in Clark county and was born and reared in Clark county, shaving spent her entire life in Winchester. Her husband, Jas. Ecton, preceded her to the grave about twenty years ago. He was Jailer at Clark county for four consecutive times. She is survived by two sons and one daughter, Walter of this city, and Ernest of Bon Ami, Louisiana, and one daughter, Mrs. John Duvall of Lexington avenue, this city. Also Mrs. Ecton has two brothers living, L. T. Flynn and Frank Flynn, one sister, Mrs. Edward Sutherland. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the family residence on Lexington avenue, by the Rev. J. W. Porter, of Lexington. Burial in Winchester Cemetery. Those who will act as pall bearers are Roy Flynn, Taylor Flynn, Charles Haggard, Lelant T. Bush, William Ecton and Richard Sutherland.

Ecton, died Friday morning at 12:55 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Younger Osborne, 133 South Burns avenue, after a lingering illness. She had been an invalid for the past 11 years. A native of Fayette county, she was a daughter of the late Noah and Sarah Dudley Ferguson, and was a member of the First Christian church here. She was educated at the Christian church school at Midway. She had resided in Winchester most of her life. Besides Mrs. Osbourne, she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Mary F. Taylor, Paris, and Mrs. Sadie Redmon, Paris; two nephews, Matt H. Bedford, Paris, and Clifton C. Ferguson, Minneapolis, Miss., and a niece, Mrs. John A. Bower, Fort Thomas. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the grave in the Winchester cemetery by Dr. A. W. Walter Ecton Walter Ecton, 82, Dies At Hospital Walter (Horse) Ecton, 82, died 2:30 a.m. today at the Clark County Hospital where he had been a patient for six years. Mr. Ecton was born in Clark County and was a son of the late James S. and Rebecca Flynn Ecton. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Mr. Ecton owned a farm on the Ecton Road where he had spent his entire life. Survivors include several cousins in Clark County. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Edgington Funeral Home by the Rev. A. Dalton Leath, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Winchester Cemetery. ECTON AT HOME IN CITY Rites For Retired Merchant-Farmer Planned Tuesday William Waller Ecton, 83, retired merchant and farmer, died Monday morning at 2:30 at his home, 8 French avenue. Mr. Ecton was a native of Clark county and was a son of the late James Smallwood and Mary Elizabeth Bailey Ecton, members of well known Clark county families. He was a member of the First Christian church and of the Hickman Lodge No. 72, I.O.O. F. Mr. Ecton owned and operated a furniture store in Winchester for a number of years under the name of the W. W. Ecton Furniture store, and at one time was associated with the late Henry H. Hall in the furniture and undertaking business here. He owned and operated farms in Shelby and Oldham counties for a period of several years. The deceased had been in failing health for the past two years, and during the three weeks prior to his death, his condition had grown steadily worse. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Martha Flynn Ecton; three sons, Edward G. Ecton, Winchester, and Frank and William H. Ecton, of Louisville; a daughter, Mrs. Park Strother, Covington; a brother, Theodore Ecton, Winchester; a sister, Miss Ella Ecton, Winchester, and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at four o'clock at the grave in the Winchester cemetery by Dr. Hugh McLellan, pastor of the First Christian church, and Dr. J. R. Jester, pastor of the First Baptist church. Pallbearers will be Harry Tanner, John Duvall, Latimer Allan, Scott Talbot, Andy Dykes, and Sam Crawford; honorary, R. P. Taylor, B. R. Jouett, H. W. Clydella Ramsey Flynn, 73, of 316 S. Main St., wife of Maurice D. Flynn, died Sunday at the Clark Regional Medical Center. A native of Winchester, she was the daughter of the late Clyde E. and Florence Gilkison Ramsey. A graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan and the University of Kentucky, she was a retired teacher and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Robert D. Flynn, Winchester; a daughter, Mrs. John C. ( Mary Beth) Hendricks, Clark County; four grandsons, John F. and Ramsey Flynn and John Maurice and Ramsey Hendricks; a great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church by the Rev. Joe Saulino. Burial will be in the Winchester Cemetery. Frank Flynn, 71 years of age, died suddenly Satuday at 1:30 at his home on the Boonesboro pike. Mr. Flynn has been sick for some time, but his death came as a sudden blow. He was a member of the Forest Grove Church, and was a prominent farmer. He is survived by one brother, Ben Flynn, of Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Ed Southerland, of Winchester; a daughter, Mrs. W. W. Ecton, Winchester, and four sons, Sam Flynn, Oklahoma City, Okla., Taylor Flynn, Lexington, Roy Flynn, Clark county, and Porter Flynn, of Clark county. The services will be held at the grave, Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock by the Rev. T.C. Ecton, of Lexington. He will be buried in the Winchester cemetery. SUCCUMBS AFTER A LONG ILLNESS Mrs. Frank FlynnDies at Her Home Near Winchester at an Early Hour Monday Morning After a serious illness of several weeks following a long siege of ill health, Mrs. Evelyn Flynn, wife of Mr. Frank Flynn, died at her home five miles from Winchester, on the Boonesboro pike, Monday morning about two o'clock. For several weeks Mrs. Flynn's condition has been such as to be a source of great alarm to the members of her family, relatives and friends and little hopes have been entertained during the past few days for her recovery. Mrs. Flynn, who was aged 53 years, was a native of Clark county, and was born Oct. 9, 1862. She was teh daughter of Isaac and Patsy Rupard, the former a native of Clark county while, her mother was from Madison county. Her marriage to Mr. Flynn occurred in her early twenties, and to this union was born three sons, Messrs. Taylor Flynn, assistant postmaster of this city, and Roy and Porter Flynn, both of Clark county, who with her husband and three step-children--Mrs. Martha Lou Ecton, of Winchester, and Sam and Hardy Flynn, who reside in the West, survives. Funeral services will be held at the Central Baptist church Tuesday morning, conducted by Rev. T. C. Ecton, of Lexington, and the burial will take place in the Winchester cemetery. The pall-bearers will be Andy Dyke, Walter Hampton, Jesse Hodgkin, R. D. Hunter, Ed. Fox and June Hunter.

Flynn, prominent Clark County farmer, died at his home on Boone avenue Thursday afternoon after a lingering illness of several years. A stroke of paralysis suffered several years ago caused an illness from which he never recovered. Mr. Flynn was one of the county's most esteemed citizens and his death marks the passing of an estimable character. He is survived by his wife and one son, Lewis Flynn of Winchester. Funeral arrangements have not been made.

Flynn Lewis Baldwin Flynn, 74, a Clark County farmer and land-owner, died at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday at his residence, 230 Boone Ave., after an illness of several months. He was a native of Clark County, the son of the late Lewis T. and Ella Baldwin Flynn, a veteran of World War I and a graduate of the University of Virginia. Mr. Flynn was former owner of Flynn's Restaurant on Boone Avenue and the Silo. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Eugenia Bishop Flynn; two sons, Lewis B. Flynn, Jr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and John Bishop Flynn, Winchester; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Flynn, and two grandsons, Lewis B. Flynn III and Kyle Hendrickson Flynn, all of Fort Lauderdale. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Edgington Funeral Home by Dr. R. R. Couey. The body will be cremated. Marjorie F. Lisle Marjorie Ann Flynn Lisle, 80, of 4732 Old Boonesboro road, wife of Howard "Bill" Lisle for 53 years, died at 10:40 p.m. Sunday at her home. A native of Clark County, she was the daughter of the late Walton Porter and Bernice Bentley Flynn. She was a high school librarian from 1942 until 1985, first at Clark County High School and later at George Rogers Clark High School where she retired. She was a graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College and attended the Providence Baptist Church and the Forest Grove Christian Church. Additional survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Linda Lisle and Donald R. Spargo, Clark County; a brother, Maurice D. Flynn, Clark County; two grandchildren, Andrew Lisle Spargo and Anna Katherine Spargo Kline, Clark County and several nieces and nephews. Martha Flynn Death of Mrs. Flynn Mrs. Martha Flynn died quite suddenly of heart disease Wednesday at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. James Ecton. She was sitting at the dinner table in her usual health when suddenly she gasped, fell back in her chair and was dead in a few moments. The funeral will be preached this afternoon at two o'clock at the residence of Mr. James Ecton by Revs. Richard French and B. B. Bailey and the remains will be buried in the Winchester cemetery. She was the daughter of the late John P. Wills, and the widow of Dudley Flynn, who died a number of years ago. One brother, Squire Ben E. Wills, and one sister, Mrs. Chas. Ecton, survive her; also the following children, Mrs. James Ecton, Mrs. Richard Ware, Mrs. James R. Strode, Mrs. E. G. Sutherland, Messrs. Frank Flynn, Lewis T. Flynn and Ben Flynn. The latter lives in Missouri. She was a woman of great force of character and had many friends. She was seventy-one years of age, and had been for many years a member of the Baptist Church and a consistent Christian.

Farmer's Body Found In Pond Walter Porter Flynn, 58, Boonesboro Road, grocery store owner and farmer, was found dead in a pond Sunday afternoon near his home four miles south of Winchester. The body was discovered by Vic Haller, Water Works Road, and Mr. Flynn's son-in-law, H. G. (Bill) Lisle, after his family became concerned about his whereabouts. Shortly after noon Sunday, Mr. Flynn said that he was going to see about some cattle about one-fourth mile from his home. Some two hours later, when he had failed to return to his home, a search was begun. The body was found floating in the water about four p.m. Deputy Coroner Charles Chism said that it was believed that Mr. Flynn possibly suffered a heart attack and fell into the pond. Mr. Flynn's store is a popular center in the Forest Grove community. The store has served many years as the Forest Grove voting precinct in political elections and for farm mettings. Mr. Flynn was a member of the Forest Grove Christian Church. He is survived fy his wife, Mrs. Oakie Bentley Flynn; a daughter, Mrs. Howard G. Lisle; a son, Maurice Flynn; a half-sister, Mrs. W. W. Ecton, and three grandchildren, all of Winchester. Funeral service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Scobee Funeral Home by the Rev. Eugene Houghton, pastor of Providence Baptist Church. He was a member of the First Baptist church where he had served as a deacon for many years. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Anna Strode Haggard; a daughter, Mrs. French W. Rickard, and a son, Nelson Strode Haggard, all of Clark county. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at the residence by the Rev. Dalton Leath, pastor of the First Baptist church. Redmon Mrs. Caroline Early Redmon, wife of Charles T. Redmon, died at the home of her only child, Mrs. Dr. Venable, in this city, at 6 o'clock Sunday evening. She was a native of Cincinnati, where two brothers live. One sister lives in Lexington. A more noble Christian woman never lived. Her face was an index to her character, and love and kindness was shown in every feature. To her husband in his grief we give the best sympathy that we can. We know that we cannot appreciate his loss. If we could we would lessen the sorrow of the only child, Mrs. Venable; but what we say will have little effect on their sorrowing hearts.

Charles T. Redmon, one of Clark County's oldest and respected citizens passed away this Saturday morning Oct. 31, from infirmities of old age, at 8 a.m., at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frankie A. Venable on South Maple street. Mr. Redmon was born in Clark County about three miles from Winchester on the Mt. Sterling road on May 6, 1839 having spent his entire life in this community. Mr. Redmon was twice married, his first wife being Miss Caroline Early, of Cincinnati, Ohio, the second, Miss Fannie Sullivan, of Covington, Ky. Immediate relatives surviving are, one daughter, Mrs. Frankie A. Venable, a grandson, Charles S. Venable and a great-grandson, John Oliver Venable. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews in Clark, Bourbon and Fayette counties. Funeral services will be held at the Venable home, 457 South Maple street on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, with burial in Winchester cemetery. Strode, of the Colbyville pike, died suddenly at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clay Haggard Friday morning. Mrs. Strode has been ill for several years of paralysis and since January has been confined to her bed, but her death was very unexpected. She has been cheerful all along and Friday morning ate a hearty breakfast. When the end came Mrs. Haggard had gone to the station to take some visitors to the early train and only one or two members of the family were in the house at the time. Mrs. Strode was born and reared in this county. Before her marriage she was Miss Flynn, a sister of Mr. L.T. Flynn, Frank and Ben Flynn, of the county. Besides the brothers she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Clay Haggard and two sisters, Mrs. Ed Sutherland and Mrs. Rebecca Ecton. The funeral services will be conducted at Mr. Haggard's residence on the Colbyville pike Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. C.C. Carroll, pastor of the First Baptist Church, and Rev. W. S. Taylor. Charles Sanford Venable, 96, died early today following a short illness at his home where he had resided since Sept. 5, 1905. A native of Clark County, he was born Dec. 9, 1888, and was a son of the late Dr. Oliver Richard and Frankie Redmon Venable. He was graduated from Winchester High School and Kentucky Wesleyan College with A.B. and M.A. degrees and did graduate work in chemistry at the University of Kentucky in 1912. He taught mathematics and science from 1913 to 1917 at Clark County High School and was the school's first basketball coach. He was elected head of the mathematics department at Kentucky Wesleyan College following the retirement of Prof. W. H. Garnett and held that position until 1921 at which time he retired from teaching and became a farmer in Clark and Bourbon Counties. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Spencer Bible Class and the oldest alumnus of Kentucky Wesleyan College. Survivors include his wife, Martha Ann Fishback Venable, whom he married June 6, 1917; a son, John Oliver Venable; a daughter, Jane Venable Brown, and a granddaughter, Martha Huntington Venable, all of Clark County. Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Edgington Funeral Home by the Rev. Al Gwinn. Burial will be in the Winchester Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Bruce Reffett, James H. Mrs. Venable, a member of a widely known family, was a daughter of the late Charles T. and Caroline Early Redmon of Clark county. She was a member of the First Methodist church. Surviving are a son, Charles S. Venable, and two grandchildren, John Oliver and Miss Jane Woodford Venable. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at three o'clock at the residence by Dr. Will B. Campbell, pastor of the First Methodist church. Interment will be in the Winchester cemetery. Casketbearers will be Charles T. Pinnell, W.E. Strode, J.H. Quisenberry, W.H. Brock, C.B. George, H.H. Franklin, T.N. Williams and Dr. E.R. Cole.
Winchester Sun on Monday July 27, 1987 on page 16. Martha Fishback Venable Mrs. Martha Fishback Venable, 97, of Winchester, widow of Charles S. Venable, died at 10 a.m. today at her home after a long illness. A native and life-long resident of Clark County, she was a daughter of the late John Jesse and Nancy Madison Woodford Fishback. She was a member of Mt. Zion Christian Church and of the Christian Women's Fellowship of the church, and was also a member of the CWF of the First Christian Church. She served as pianist of Mt. Zion Christian Church for 72 years and also was treasurer of the church for many years. Survivors include a son, John Oliver Venable, Clark County; a daughter, Mrs. T.J. (Jane Venable) Brown, Clark County, and a granddaughter, Martha Huntington Venable, Clark County. Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Edgington Funeral Home by Dr. Edward Mesta. Burial will be in the Winchester Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Winchester Sun on Friday, December 3, 1920 on page one. Dr. O.R. Venable DR. VENABLE PASSES AWAY Prominent Physician Succumbs to Pneumonia, After Only a Short Illness at His Home in This City Dr. O. R. Venable, prominent physician died at 10 o'clock Friday morning of pneumonia. He was born at Cassville, Bartown County, Georgia, Dec. %, 1859, and spent his early life in his home county. He graduated from Delonga Military school, Georgia when very young. Later he attended the Medical Department of the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, from which he graduated with the degree of Doctor of Medicine in the year 1885, having taken the entire special course in the treatment of eye, ear, nose and throat diseases. Upon graduation, Dr. Venable came directly to Winchester where he formed a partnership with Dr. M.S. Browne. Later, the partnership was joined by Dr. J. W. Ishmanel. In 1889, Dr. Venable withdrew from the firm, establishing his office at the Main street location where he has practices hi s profession since that time. Dr. Venable was a man of great sobriety and noble Christian character. In addition to his success in his profession, he was a man of great business ability and in late years has given a good deal of attention to farming. Aside from professional consultation, his advice and counsel were sought in many other lines of business. Besides his wife, who was before marriage, Miss Frankie Redmon, he leaves one son, Professor Charles S. Venable, head of the Department of Mathmatics at Kentucky Wesleyan College, three sisters, Mrs. John A. Shaw of LaFayette, Georgia; Mrs. W.J. Shattuck of LaFayette, Georgia and Mrs. C.F. Linn of Vero, Florida and one brother, C. E. Venable of Rome, Georgia. The funeral will be held at the late residence, No. 457 South Maple Street on Sunday, Dec. 5th at 2 p.m. Burial in the Winchester Cemetery. The pall bearers will be Dr. Ernest Cole, Dr. J.H. Browne, Dr. B.F. Johnson, Dr. E.P. Guerrani, Dr. John A. Snowden and Dr. Richard Allen. The honorary pall bearers will be N.H. Witherspoon, John J. Fishback, Pres. W. B. Campbell, R. P. Taylor, Charles T. Pinnell, George Tomlinson, Richard N. Ratliff, J. M. Hodgkin, Rev. George O'Bryan, W.T. Poynter, Joe R. Nunnelly, E.F. Cantler, J.W. Hollar and M. H. Gardner.
