The Winchester News WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 14, 1908 Transcribed by: David Bridges Page 1 AUTOMOBILE HITS SURREYMr W R Thomas Car Hits Carriage - No One Seriously Hurt A horse attached to a surrey containing Mr and Mrs B S Haggard and daughter and Mrs Wheeler Haggard was frightened by an automobile driven by W R ThomasWednesday morningand a serious accident was narrowly adverted. The carriage party was standing in front of the office of The News on Main street and the horse took fright at the approach of the automobile, reared and attempted to turn. In the narrow space between the sidewalk and the street car standing on the track, Mr Thomas found it impossible to avoid running into the surrey. No one was seriously hurt although the party were pretty thoroughly frightened. Several spokes of the surrey were broken and the harness. Mr Thomas was driving at a moderate speed when the accident occurred. ------------ TO MOVE TO CITY The handsome new residence building of Mr V. Bloomfield on Lexington ave has just been completed. It has been leased by Mr Thomas Brock who will move in from the country the first of the month. ------------ MARRIAGE LICENSE A marriage license was issuedWednesday morningby the County Clerk, J A Boone to A R Dennison and Tina Emma Collins.
