WILCOX FAMILY OF CLARK COUNTY, KY.Submitted by Carolyn Chism

Israel Wilcoxen was born about 1822 and died 1898 in Clark County, Kentucky. He was the son of Rachel Wilcoxen and who his father was is unknown. Rachel was the child of William Wilcoxen and Rachel Boone. Israel married Elizabeth Atkinson and they were the parents of John W. Wilcoxen, Eliza Jane Wilcoxen, Sally Ann Wilcoxen, Elizabeth Wilcoxen, and Mary Boone Wilcoxen. When Elizabeth died, Israel married Julia Ann Chism, daughter of Elizabeth Fletcher and James Chism. Israel and Julia were the parents of Rachel Mildred Wilcox, who married James William Chism, James Wesley Wilcox, who married Susan Isabelle Crowe, Charles A. Wilcox, who married George Anne Hampton, Sarah Frances Wilcox, who married John Wesley Fitzpatrick, Virginia Wilcox, who married Simon Shearer, Jasper Wilcox, who married Fannie J. Brown, David Wilcox, who married Sarah Jones, Nancy Wilcox, who married George W. Conley, and Dillard Wilcox, who married Mary Lizzie Adams. Most of the descendants of these families still reside in Clark County. Sometime between the death of Elizabeth Atkinson and Israel�s remarriage to Julia Chism the last syllable was dropped from Wilcoxen and are now known as Wilcox. The original Wilcoxen family came to Kentucky as part of Daniel Boone�s family and stayed to help settle the Clark County area. Dillard Wilcox was a veteran of the Spanish American War and died as a result of wounds received in battle. By Carolyn A. Chism
