Clark County Circuit Court Records for the Lindsay family

Research Report Prepared by Kellie Scott, August 17, 2005

1809 Bundle#97James Lindsay is being sued by James Patton on behalf of William Scott.

1819 Bundle#206   A summons for Reuben Lindsay and his wife Polly to appear in court in a chancery suit.  They are being sued by Charles and James Grimes.

1820 Bundle #232 Jacob Lindsay and Margaret Branham in a suit involving money with Solomon Hays.

1833 Bundle #261 This is one long and confusing case.  It involves Jacob Lindsay, Solomon Hays and Peter Foley.  Notice on page three Jacob Lindsay, James Lindsay and Margaret Branham are all mentioned.  It appears to be about a horse.

1834 # 423  Thomas Lindsay is being summons to court by Fleming Hill.  Lindsay owes Hill money.

1839 #488  Thomas Lindsay is being sued by Alfred Fox for money due.

1840 #501  Thomas Lindsay is being sued by Gustavius Elgin for money due.

1841#524  This appears to be more of the settling of the estate of William H. Lindsay.  When you get to the third page from the back it states that James Lindsay now lives in South Carolina.

1842 Bundle # 542

This one has a summons to the Sheriff of Madison County for Thomas Lindsay and Charles Lindsay to appear in court to answer a petition filed against them by James W. Keith.  It appears that Thomas and Charles owe money to James W. Keith.  Notice the last page of this case.  The Lindsays were summoned in both Madison and Clark Counties to appear in the Winchester courthouse in Clark County.

1843 Bundle #563

Notice the second page of this one.  It is a paper from the Bourbon County Courthouse stating that William H. Lindsay has been deceased for more than 3 months and no one has applied for administration on his estate.  On the same page notice that the Sheriff of Clark County has summoned to Henry Laughlin to court to answer to the Sheriff Foster Collins, Executor of the estate of William H. Lindsay, it appears that Laughlin must have owed William H. Lindsay.  Preston Lindsay will get the use of this money.

1847  Bundle #618    Lindsay and Haggard vs. Obediah Tracey   This case could not be found.

1848 Bundle #630

Charles Lindsay is suing Obediah Tracey.  Witnesses called were Thomas Sudduth, James Gay and Isaac Skinner.   Later you read another summons stating a trespassing charge.  This one is confusing.  Then you will observe there is another case in the middle of this bundle.  This involves Charles Lindsay, James Lindsay and Margaret Branham. It appears Margaret died in testate and James is the administrator.

1850 Bundle #654  Lazarus Lindsay vs. Thomas Allen  Allen seems to owe Lindsay money.
