The Old Soldiers Monument

The Old Soldiers Monument located in the Burchett/Plummer Cemetery at Wolf features sandstone inscriptions at the base which list soldiers from that part of the county who fought in the Revolutionary, 1812, Mexican, Civil, and Spanish American Wars.  It was erected by Robert Burchett, patron of the cemetery who spent much of his life caring for the memorial and promoting the patriotism of fallen soldiers.

A descendant of Charles Burchett writes regarding the Burchett/Plummer Cem. and the "Old Soldier's Monument:

"This monument stands in my family cemetery which was indeed founded by Robert Burchett. Information I have from a notebook kept by Charles Wesley Burchett, copied by my Great Aunt Kate Burchett indicates that this monument was actually planned and erected by Charles Wesley Burchett with the aid of his brothers John P. and Nelson T. Burchett. Robert Burchett was not living at the time the monument was built."
