Barren County Will Records, 1828 - 1856, Vol. 3, pg. 317-318
In the name of God Amen, I Jesse Morriss of the County of Barren & State
of Kentucky being sick & weak of body, but of sound mind and disposing
memory (for which I thank God) and calling to mind the uncertainty of life and
being desirous to dispose of all such worldly estate, as it has pleased God to
bless me with, I give and bequeath the same in manner following, (that is to
say), 1st I give and bequeath unto the heirs of my son Lewis Morriss decd
(viz) Burwell E Morris, Kitty Ann Elmore & Louisa Jane Elmore, (both
formerly Morriss) a certain portion of my lands to be laid off in one body for
their benefit and bounded as follows (viz) Beginning on the bluff of Beaver
Creek, at a chestnut, black gum & maple thence to a small black walnut
corner standing near the orchard, thence to a sugar tree standing on the bank
of the branch in the old still house yard, thence to the center of the tobacco
ground spring, thence N E to Warrings line, thence with said line to the creek
& with the creek to the beginning 2nd I give and bequeath unto my
grandson Jesse A Morriss, heir of Lewis Morriss two hundred dollars to
be paid out of any of my funds or property not otherwise bequeathed 3rd
I give and bequeath unto my son Carter C Morriss, a certain portion of
my land bounded as follows, Beginning at Beaver Creek on the above named
chestnut black gum & maple, thence with the within named line of Lewis
Morriss’s heirs to the walnut corner, near the orchard thence a strait
line to three beeches standing on Warrings lower line, thence with the sd line
until it intersects with my line running down the creek, thence with said line
up the creek to the beginning 4th I have given to my two sons Jordan A
Morriss and Burwell Morriss their portion of my lands heretofore
5th The residue of my lands I give and bequeath unto my wife during her
natural life or widowhood, and at her decease it is my will it shall be sold
and the proceeds equally divided between my children, say one fourth part to
the heirs of my son Lewis Morriss decd, one fourth part to Carter C Morriss,
one fourth part to Jordan A Morriss & one fourth part to Burwell Morriss
or their heirs, 6th All of the residue of my estate of what nature
soever, it may be, not herein before disposed of, I desire may be sold and and
{sic} the proceeds equally divided among my several children herein before
named, which I give to them & their heirs forever 7th I desire that
Rebecca Morriss widow of Lewis Morriss decd shall live upon the lot with her
children if she chooses during her natural life or widowhood 8th As
respects Lauer a black woman, I desire that she shall be at liberty to do for
herself for the balance of her time, and to live on the premises if she
chooses until her death, to wit, my home place, and I enjoin upon my children
to see that she does not suffer for the necessaries of life__ And lastly I
hereby constitute and appoint my friends John Dodd & A H Spillman
executors of this my last will & testament, hereby revoking all other or
former wills, or testaments by me heretofore made. In witness whereof I have
herewith set my hand and affixed my seal, this 3rd day of January 1850.

The foregoing writing purporting to be the last and testament of Jesse Morris
decd was produced in court and proven in due form of law by the oath of James
W Davies and Christopher Newman witnesses thereto Hereto, Whereupon the same
was ordered to be recorded as the true last will and testament of said Jesse
Morriss decd
