He noted: "This Will I Smith is not related to us as far as we know; his mother married William Granville Smith, after the death of his first wife, Genetta Catherine Smith, a sister of Asa Smith and the daughter of David and Fannie (Cobb) Smith. John Smith born Aug. 7th 1829; died June 22, 1903. His father's name was William Smith; his mother's name was Lydda Smith. John Smith was married in 1848 to Mary English Beaty (b. Nov 15th 1827; date of death not given). Her father's name was Isaac Beaty and her mother's name was Susie Guin. Eight children:

William Granville Smith was born Dec. 17th 1849; d. Dec. 7, 1920. His wife (1st) was Genetta Catherine Smith and was a sister to Asa Smith. His 2nd wife was Mary Elizabeth Betay. (She was Will I. Smith's mother).

Susan Ellen Smith was born Nov. 2nd 1851; died April 5, 1930. She married Thomas McDonald.
Isaac Smith was born Dec. 17th 1853; died Jan. 2, 1928.
Sarah Jane Smith was born Sept. 22nd 1855; date of death not given.
Nancy Mahaley Smith was born Nov. 21st 1857; died April 16, 1860.
James Milton Smith was born Dec. 24th 1859; died May 10, 1930.
David Guin Smith was born March 22nd 1862; died Aug. 20, 1944. He married Sallie McDonald.
George Washington Smith was born Jan. 21st 1866; died May 31st 1900. He married Mary Reynolds.
