Pittinger; Shaver; Whitaker; Rearer [?]; Stone; Beckham; Jewell [?]
In the name of God Amen. I Abraham Pittinger of Spencer County and State
of Kentucky being weak in body but sound in mind and Judgement and Considering the uncertainty of
life do make this my last will and Testament in manner and form following Towit:
Item I want all my just debts paid off the first thing.
Item I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Rebecca Pittinger all my
Estate both real and personal for and during her natural life and she is hereby authorized and
empowered to sell and convey a title for either Bob or Rupert at a fair price if she shall think
proper to do so or to hire either of said Boys out is she prefers to do it.
Item I give and bequeath to my son William Pittinger one hundred acres
of land including the buildings where I and William now live, that he is to have and possess after
the death of my wife but not before her death at fifteen dollars per acre.
Item My will further is that my son William shall have as much more of
my land on the east side of big Elk Creek at fifteen dollars per acre as he shall be able to buy
forming the one hundred acres above mentioned after the death of my wife.
Item My will further is that after the death of my wife the balance of
my land not otherwise disposed of shall be sold at public same and my Executor or Executors
hereinafter named is or are hereby fully authorized to convey said land to the purchaser or
purchasers.
Item my will and desire further is that after the death of my wife my
heirs shall either sell or divide my negroes that may then be subject to distribution amongst them
as they shall think best.
Item I give and bequeath, after the death of my wife, that my three
grand children namely Elizabeth Shaver formerly Pittinger, Milley and Nancy Pittenger shall have
fifty dollars each out of my Estate.
Item my will and desire further is that I want my children namely Rachel
Whitaker formerly Pittinger, William Pittinger, Smith Pittinger the children of Thomas Pittenger
and Rebecca Rearer [?] formerly Pittinger and Henry Pittinger, two of the children of John
Pittinger Dec’d to receive and equal part of my estate and in order to make a settlement
between them ____ of them are chargeable as follows towit:
Rachel Whitaker has received one negro
woman $300.00
Thomas Pittinger has
received
$1000.00
Smith Pittinger has received
$700.00
John Pittingers children have
received
$300.00
Item my will further is that the one hundred and fifty dollars that I
have left to my three grandchildren, namely Elizabeth Shaver and Milley and Nancy Pittinger shall
be taken out of the part of Rebecca Rearer and Nancy Pittinger in their part of my estate.
Item I hereby ordain constitute and appoint as Executor to this my last
will and Testament my son William Pittinger and my friend Edmund Stone with full power and
authority to carry this my last will and Testament into full and complete effect. In
Testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal April 27th, 1837

At a County Court held for Spencer County on Monday the 5th day of June 1837
This writing purporting to be the last will and Testament of Abraham Pittinger deceased was proved
according to Law by the oath of James W. Beckham and William Jewell [?] witnessed thereto and is
ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of William Pittinger and Edmund Stone the
Executors therein named who made oath thereto and together with Abraham [Van Dyke ?] and Joseph
Huffman their securities entered into and acknowledged their Bond in the penalty of $8000.
conditioned as the law directs Certificate is granted them for obtaining a probate of the
said will in due form.
